Marking the centennial of Slovenian ballet, the show is dedicated to a most transient of arts, the profession of ballet artists, their body and the creation of different artistic worlds when interpreting various ballet roles. Special attention is devoted to some associated arts, including choreography, music, costume and set design. It chronicles the history of this intangible cultural heritage, from the second half of the 18thcentury when Ljubljana hosted the first ballet performances by travelling Italian and German theatre companies, to the first Slovenian ballets, ballet soloists and choreographers. A hundred years ago, in 1918, the first professional ballet ensemble was established in Ljubljana, followed by the heyday of ballet, a period of vigour that has continued to this very day. This chronological overview will include handbills, posters and photographs kept in Slovenian archives, museums, national theatres and the national TV station, and private collections of ballet artists and ballet enthusiasts.
