The Camerata Salzburg (1952) musicians are full of impressive energy and limitless potential, uncompromisingly individual, daring, and modern – and yet classically consistent, possessing a refined, signature sound of great dynamic breadth. The repertoire of this leading chamber ensemble covers a wide variety of music from string quartets for a small chamber group to romantic symphonies and twentieth-century classical works for a large orchestra.
Whereas Louis Langrée was appointed Camerata Salzburg’s Principal Conductor in 2011, in Ljubljana the ensemble will perform under François Leleux, a versatile and charismatic musician and a leading oboist of his generation. Leleux has gained renown as a flamboyant performer with a tremendous variety of colour, matching immaculate technique with a dazzlingly vivid identification with his music. An artist displaying unbridled sensitivity, Leleux captivates the audiences with his sparkling vitality and the urge to engage with his listeners. In recent seasons, Leleux has established a significant parallel reputation as a conductor.
Praised by audiences and critics alike for her virtuosity and profound sensitivity, Leleux’s spouse Lisa Batiashvili was hailed as Musical America's 2015 Instrumentalist of the Year. The violinist is renowned for her technical brilliance, lucid timbre and charismatic power. She commands her place among the world’s foremost artists with performances of great insight and expressive eloquence.
A journey through the musical heritage of different stylistic periods will include classicistic geniuses Lebrun and Mozart, Mendelssohn’s mesmerising landscapes, and the disguised simplicity of Kancheli’s contemporary music.
