One of Hungary's leading symphonic orchestras, celebrating its centenary in 2023, the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra achieved a crucial international breakthrough under the leadership of the legendary Zoltán Kocsis who built and expanded the orchestra’s repertoire.
The Ljubljana concert will be conducted by the charismatic Alevtina Ioffe, the first woman Music Director of the prestigious Mikhailovsky Theatre in Sankt Petersburg with a strong international presence (her engagements include the Berlin, Seattle, and Washington operas, Orchestre de l’Île-de-France, Staatskapelle Weimar...).
The evening’s programme forms a coherent whole: if the ballet suite reflects the conductor’s affinity for genre diversity, Bartók’s oeuvre features prominently in the repertoire of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra. The works of two leading 19th-century music figures call for great virtuosity: this time featuring as soloist the brilliant Alexander Malofeev, one of the most prominent successors to Russian pianism who won the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians at age thirteen (2014).
