Simon Trpčeski has been defining the highest echelons of pianism for more than two decades. An unparalleled artist of superb musicality, Trpčeski has been praised not only for his seemingly playful virtuosity and deeply expressive approach, but also for his charismatic stage presence. He has established himself as a sought-after soloist with prestigious orchestras and a celebrated recitalist, as well as a music researcher committed to strengthening the cultural image of his native country, Macedonia, with his chamber music project Makedonissimo (since 2017). The first-ever recipient of the title “National Artist of Macedonia” (2011), Trpčeski’s fruitful collaborations with labels as eminent as EMI Classics, ONYX Classics and LINN Records has resulted in a broad and award-winning discography (Diapason d'or, Gramophon, Classics FM…).
The evening’s programme echoes the artist’s stylistic breadth unhindered by national or musical boundaries: from Chopin’s stylised atmospheric miniature dance poems and Grieg's suite in Baroque style with a hint of Nordic flavour, to the emotional outburst in Prokofiev’s inexorable blend of bittersweet grief, pulsating intensity and lyrical depth, as well as a majestic transcription of a suite from the iconic The Nutcracker that captures the exuberance of orchestral colours.
