Arriving in good time
During the festive season in December, traffic tends to get heavily congested in Ljubljana. Visitors are advised to leave home earlier than usual to avoid arriving late.
Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra
Conductor: Ivor Bolton
Programme:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony No. 1 in E-flat major, K. 16
Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 5 in B-flat major
Mozart and Bruckner were such different personalities. Mozart’s whole life was driven by joy, storminess and audacity, while Bruckner’s character was imbued with modesty and moderation. Whereas Mozart was extremely sociable, Bruckner found it difficult to be among people. Mozart’s first fully preserved symphony, written when he was just eight years old, reflects all of the aforementioned qualities of the musical genius. On the other hand, Bruckner’s unusual Symphony No. 5 surprises with its dazzling world of sound and emotion. Heroic melodies and robust themes flow from the composer’s inner desire, hope and longing – feelings he usually kept to himself. Bruckner himself gave the symphony the title Fantastic”.
