Arriving in good time
During the festive season in December, traffic tends to get heavily congested in Ljubljana. Visitors are advised to leave home earlier than usual to avoid arriving late.
Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra
Conductor: Bas Wiegers
Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra
Soloist: Barbara Kozelj, mezzo-soprano
Programme:
Claude Debussy (orch. Henri Büsser), Petite Suite
Joseph Canteloube, Selection of songs from the cycle Chants d’Auvergne
Sergei Rachmaninoff, Symphonic Dances, Op. 45
Marie-Joseph Canteloube de Malaret was a composer who carried his birthplace, the mountainous French region of Auvergne, in his heart wherever he went. He was a great admirer of the simple pastoral and love songs of his compatriots, giving them a new sonic image and introducing them to the wider world. The Philharmonic’s performance of a selection of Canteloube’s songs will be the first Slovenian collaboration of a well-honed musical couple, our excellent mezzo-soprano Barbara Kozelj and the superb Dutch conductor Bas Wiegers. The programme will be rounded off with the playful Petite Suite by Claude Debussy and the nostalgic Symphonic Dances by Sergei Rachmaninoff.
