Arriving in good time
During the festive season in December, traffic tends to get heavily congested in Ljubljana. Visitors are advised to leave home earlier than usual to avoid arriving late.
In compliance with the restrictive measures taken by the Government of RS to limit the second wave of the Coronavirus pandemic, Cankarjev dom has cancelled or rescheduled all events. All exhibitions are temporarily closed.

Opening in January, the SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana and Cankarjev dom’s coproduction brings a new energy and scale to Spartacus, one of the post-war Russian repertoire’s most popular ballets. With the character of a rebellious gladiator, an example of oppressed people fighting against a slave-owning oligarchy, Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian succeeded in displaying affinity to his own time, Soviet Union in the 1950s, whilst trying to capture the atmosphere of ancient Rome in order to bring to life images of the remote past and the universal theme of humanity’s fight for individual and collective freedoms.
An ambitious stage production, Spartacus relies heavily upon the qualities of the brilliant male dancers.
Spartacus is one of the post-war Russian repertoire’s most popular ballets.
