Cankarjev dom's latest addition is the Alma Karlin Hall. The venue's design follows the principles of sustainable living in every respect. The furnishings are made of wood fibre and recycled materials, and feature energy-saving technology, including LED luminaires and highly energy-efficient sound and multimedia equipment. The chairs are made exclusively from recycled materials, which have saved the planet from 4200 discarded half-litre plastic bottles and 126 kilograms of carbon dioxide.
 

As a public institution, Cankarjev dom is committed to green public procurement, which means having clear, verifiable, justifiable, and ambitious environmental criteria for products and services and conditioning that resources and operating processes are provided sustainably as a prerequisite for cooperation in all public procurement procedures. For its promotional materials and other printed matter CD uses paper based on primary fibres originating from sustainably managed forests. CD is also committed to green public procurement in all operational segments, which means sourcing goods, services and works that have a reduced environmental impact throughout their life cycle compared to ordinary goods, services and works and conserve natural resources, materials and energy, and have the same or better functionality.
