Arriving in good time
During the festive season in December, traffic tends to get heavily congested in Ljubljana. Visitors are advised to leave home earlier than usual to avoid arriving late.
Oumou Sangaré, lead vocals; Kandy Guira, Emma Lamadji, back vocals; Guimba Kouyate, guitar; Abou Diarra, kamele n'goni
Widely acknowledged as an African diva, Oumou continues to explore her themes with the same freedom and audacity that marked her debut some 30 years ago. It is the fighter, the undefeated rebel that you find on Mogoya Acoustic, Oumou’s snapshot of an album bound by neither tradition nor modernity. An artist of global repute, Sangaré has spent a significant part of her career using her voice to fight for the rights of women across Africa and the world, treading a fine line between traditional music and a new approach. Her new release provides further proof of her courage and generosity and consolidates her position as Mali’s leading opinion-maker, established with her defining debut Moussolou, an album that sold over 250,000 copies and did much for the feminist cause in West Africa. It was then (in 1994) that Oumou first appeared in Ljubljana, at the Druga Godba Festival, and we are looking forward to her third visit to Slovenia and first to Cankarjev dom.
